Precisely What I Had Been Looking For - Small Business Tax Software Critique

By Isaac Jenkins

In Windows 7, IE 8 will prompt you for changes to in-private filtering as well as firewall exceptions. In 1 situation, I used IE 8 for a manual download, it prompted a change in my "advanced firewall settings" under Windows 7, and voila!

I gave a "tolerant" 4 star rating with respect to user functionality, giving credit to the designers with the original intent of creating a standalone product. Don't be snookered like me, save your money. I have been using Quicken 2008 Deluxe for the past 3 years. I consistently get CC-501 errors. Right now they are offering Quicken Home and Business at a 35% discount and if you are thinking about purchasing it you might want to read all the reviews. It is even more insulting that they disabling features on software I purchased (ie disabling QIF imports on Quicken 2007) so that I have to upgrade. The search and search-n-replace feature is worse than before. After searching for various alternatives, both online and standalone, I ended up selecting Quicken Home and Business 2011 (being self-employed I need the business module). At first I was quite nervous about Quickens ability to load almost 10-years' worth of history and be able to make sense of it. But this time, what they did, is plain outrageous. And I'm still out the $50 for that Q2011 that I had to junk. You feel like you've been left high and dry after the purchase. Also, they don't have a fair upgrade policy anymore.

It did miss a few that it labels as "unavailable". As far as I can tell Quicken offers at least the same choices of online banking that MS-Money did, if not more.

Appropriately, the printer spit out blank paper. To give you a full measure of my frustration, this is the first review I have ever written on Amazon, and I've used Amazon for many years.

As a software engineer myself, honestly this software is the worst one I have ever experienced. The first day when I tried to use it, it has a fundamental bug to get the basic jobs done.

There should be an option to turn hide them permanently - It also doesn't remember that I enlarged it the previous time. These two are either tied as my biggest gripe or are my 2nd biggest gripe. I was so excited in fact, that I paid a premium to download rather than wait for UPS. In retrospect, I should have paid more attention to the eerie similarity between the reviews, and in fact they were all from beta testers (shills?) perhaps working off the same talking points. I wrote for support, no answer. I will be returning the software, and return to my 2002 Quicken Home and Business which works just fine.
