Make Your Work Go Viral

By Maria Carmen Vidaroz

When you hear the word "virus" what do you think of? Do you think if being sick, having some disease or illness? If you're a hardcore internet marketer, then maybe you thought about content that goes viral? This particular type of content creates intense interest on the net, and people naturally share it and pass it on to people they know. And what's great is that the person who created it doesn't have to do anything else with it.

Avoid the common and predictable. If you are known for focusing on one single topic, create a new product or service in a new niche. Never worry about letting people see something different from you. If you don't overdo it, you can keep people wondering and guessing - and curious about what's next from you.

If you become too predictable you run the risk of being taken for granted. That could have a negative impact on your business. When you do something unexpected, you grab peoples' attention and they are more likely to spread the word about what you are doing. And viral components are getting your content shared, and being talked about by people and their friends.

The expressed intent of your content is to have people read it, or look at it, and they feel "something" very strong, right away. All the normal, sort of common reactions people have to something mildly interesting is not what you want. Don't be afraid to elicit a negative reaction in people because it's still a reaction and better than none at all. What they do with your content will be determined by the strength, quality, and degree of reaction to you.

Create a free product that you can give to others to share. Putting together a free newsletter with one of those "forward this to your friends" buttons at the end of it is a great way to make sure more eyes see your work than those who subscribe to it. Make sure your best content is put on the front page of your blog at no charge. Give a coupon for a free product or a free hour of your shop's service. By allowing people to print two or more coupons that they can send to their friends, will get more attention and new customers.

There are no predictable guarantees with viral marketing. Getting as many people to see your work as possible is really the only thing that you can do.

Creating quality products, quality content and doing your best is only half of what you need to win the game. From there you need to get people to want to pay attention to you and what you are offering. You could greatly improve your chances if you used these hints and tips.
