Finding The Right Server Hosting Systems To Save Money

By Adriana Noton

Technology changes a lot over the years. Now, companies that used to spend most of the time typing and writing things manually have moved into a total electronic age. While things go faster now, the costs have gone up in trying to keep up with the technology. The expense for a department and the equipment is usually too much for most companies to handle, so they turn to server hosting solutions to save money. They can keep up with the technology while saving.

A server hosting solution is one where an outside company provides both space and software for a fee to any company that is looking for a managed computer system. It allows companies to focus their efforts and budgets on doing what they do best, rather than spending large chunks on equipment and a department to manage the systems.

Those companies that have websites are already familiar with these services. They are much cheaper than buying the equipment and hosting them internally. The cost for the higher speed internet, equipment, and staff can run very high. Instead, leasing provides a much cheaper solution to having the same type of systems.

The two major types of systems are virtual or shared, and dedicated. The dedicated systems are provided to let a company have a server to themselves. This gives them plenty of drive space and allows them to make their own changes. The virtual systems are usually shared by many different customers. Since the systems are shared, the costs are much lower because the costs are also shared. Any company that out grows a shared system can easily move to a dedicated system.

Software as a service, or SaaS, is also a hosted system, but instead of providing a website, they provide the office software that most companies use internally. Rather than buying the packages to install on every machine, the service allows leasing the usage through the web. The savings are based on the fact that not everyone uses a word processor or spreadsheet system. The number of licenses leased can be reduced to just the number of people using them. This also saves on costs of upgrading because the hosting company will provide the upgrades, often free.

There are two basic comparisons that need to be made. First, the costs are a factor. Though they are cheaper, they are often slightly different from one provider to the next. They should be really easy to compare. Checking on the customer service options will provide a good idea of how reliable the company is. If there are many ways to get in touch with the company, and they are open all day and night, they probably will be able to provide better service options.

Since the systems are web based, all that is required is a good computer and Internet connection. Each user will be able to log in from anywhere, which also opens the possibility of having work from home employees, which saves even more on equipment costs. All of these cost reductions serve to make a company much more profitable.

It is not cheap to keep up with all the technology needs in a company. In fact, many simply skip versions because they cannot afford to buy new licenses every year. Using server hosting options allows companies the keep up with technology and save money at the same time.
