Are Gas Additives Best For Your Gasoline Consumption?

By Andrew R. Ford

Advertising for oil and fuel additives can be found almost everywhere and you can purchase them in many stores. In case you have never observed them, you will realize they all point out that they will give your car better gas mileage when you add them to your tank. We're assured by some of the makers that their treatments are approved by the FDA, but the latter strongly rebuts this.

Assuming that they are not FDA approved, then it is very strange that they are allowed to be sold under the false pretense that they have been approved. Who is a person to believe and just what does one do under these circumstances? In the absence of an honest and truthful authority, consumers have difficulties evading deceptive product claims. These additives are simply put in the tank when you are filling up with gas, and then you get better mileage, according to the directions. It will occupy some of the gas tank so you are likely to have a little less gas, but you won't get better gas mileage.

Evidently there are deposits at the bottom part of the gas tank which have to be cleaned out, and so in the additives you will find platinum, magnesium and tin, which they say do this. One thing that's sure, never employ a product that has acetone, because it will break down plastic parts in your fuel system. Although it might possibly be true that minor amounts of acetone won't cause damage, it is hard to know when the amount involved is minor enough. It is pretty risky to test, considering there is no evidence that the product works to begin with. You would hate to ruin your fuel system by making use of a product that never worked. Regardless if in many cases your car will not be harmed by one of these additives, the need for them is questionable

The marketing strategy is to get the consumer to believe that the product will bring about the more efficient running of his car. The marketing persuades a lot of consumers, so when they fill up, they also put in a bottle of additive. Whether or not the product actually works like the advertisers claim is hard to check, but so long as people keep buying they have a profitable business. One reason why these additives are not necessary might be the fact that the gas already has ingredients which will do the same thing. Even though fuel additives are not that expensive, if they are not doing what they say, then they are a waste of money. If your fuel pretty much does it, why are you being duped into buying something that doesn't help.

The additives that are currently there for the oil, are just depositing in what the oil already has. The most significant thing when it comes to oil, is always using what the automobile manufactuer recommends. Begin using an inappropriate grade of motor oil, it might ruin your engine.
