Good Sound But Very Uncomfortable

By Chris Griffin

I find these to be much more comfortable and better built than the ones I had. The only possible down side is that, like any large cover-the-ear style headphones, after wearing these for a while in a warm environment, ears tend to get hot and sweaty. These things are so freaking choice that they've influenced my taste in music drastically, they make it very easy to point out the flaws in bad music. They get so uncomfortable after 1 hour of use. Just picking these up off the table can give you the reassurance that these headphones will last a long time. After owning my 280s for 2 years now, I can offer a pretty informed insight on this. The difference is astounding compared to listening out of the box. While the headphones do block an impressive amount of ambient noise, some naturally leaks in.

If you are someone that can get really into things and ignore the world than these basically would cancel out everything. I notice this of so many songs, I want to listen to them all over again!

That was not fault of the headphones. This is because you get more out of the bass.

I liked them so much that I had to share the experience with folks at work - the people that listened were all impressed at the sound, especially considering the price.

Good luck and great times! Maybe the diaphragms have opened up a bit to reproduce even the finest detail. Musicians will almost exclusively be using the 1/4" jack and are hard on their gear, so this removes the inevitable hunt for the adapter and frequent trips to radio shack when the plug is gone for good.

The Triports had much better and thicker material construction on the ear cushions than the Sennheiser did. Even for some with large heads, these are fine.

Match the headphones to your audio source.

The only issues I have with them are: I have noticed with the stretching out (breaking in) of the phones, the seal isn't as good. I've used these both with my PS3 and home theater system, as well as with my PC. If Sennheiser could come up with an improved HD280 that's not as big, not as tight on the ears, with about the same sound isolation, velour ear pads, and the same great sound -- that would be perfection.

Basically the quality still has to be there in order for the headphones to pick it up. Check out the spec sheet on the HD 280s. If I was a drummer I would buy these and never need another pair of anything.

In my opinion, they are too large for portable use or travel.
