More than half of the homeowners in the United States have done their own home improvement. If you have a large backyard and you do not already have one, it may be beneficial to build a deck before putting your house on the market. This is because potential home buyers look at a deck as a crucial entertaining space for family and friends to hang out in.

Place candles throughout your house. Candles can create a wonderful effect in your home. The effect will be heightened if the candle is scented with a good fragrance. You can place candles in bedrooms, bathrooms, and dining areas. Bathrooms especially benefit from the use of scented candles. Scented candles will give your house a homey feel.

Never agree to a discount from a contractor for not bothering with paperwork. Without a contract you are completely out of luck if the contractor doesn't fulfill his obligations and do the work to the quality that you expected.

Self adhesive drywall patches are a must-have home improvement. These patches come in many forms ranging from mesh drywall tape to those made of a polymer material. Press them carefully into place using an iron. Be careful not to scorch the patch or the wall surface. Paint right over the patch and you'll never know it's there.

Here is a great tip to get rid of mineral build up in faucets. Simply create a mixture of lemon juice and vinegar and soak the head of the faucet in the mixture. The mixture will dissolve the mineral build up and eliminate any hard water that may be coming through the faucet head.
