New Owners Notes To Computer Repair

By Lee Highbridge

We all hate it. Go to use the computer and it wont turn on. Or when it does, it gives us some error message we don't understand. Or you have weird problems during a game, and you get a reboot right when you are about to conquer something. It looks like a computer repair is in your future.

Computer issues come in two varieties, hardware or software. One can cause issues with the other and vice versa. Knowing how to properly troubleshoot the root cause of a problem is of key importance.

Hardware problems can be easier to identify. Most problems are caused by the power supply. Or lack of power from it. If you pay very close attention, look at the fans inside. When you hit the power button, do they bump or barely move at all? A bad power supply may make the fans bump a quick second, or not at all. This is an easy repair. Fan failures are easy to repair also, the big question is though, did the fan fail and burn up the cpu or processor.

The other main problem with hardware is the video card. Either you get nothing on the monitor, or the monitor itself is bad. Many basic computers have a built in video onto the motherboard, so you cant change it out. But sometimes you can get an aftermarket video card that adds on, not removing the original, just adding an extra. Of the other components, they rarely fail, and are not detrimental.

Software issues are very common. Most computers have a good 20 software errors that we rarely see but live with every day. The operating system is where most issues are seen, but also has the majority of support out there.

The operating system is what makes everything work. It makes video, printing, software run, or even the keyboard recognizable. With the thousand of items it must do, there are bound to be problems unearthed. It isnt 100% perfect. Just a small change in how your browser works, can affect other things as well. But all those little changes for the better, can pay a price elsewhere. That isn't to say don't ever update, they are necessary. But pay attention to what is done, it is important to know.

Changing out a power supply or a video card can be done easily in less than 30 minutes. Most things are actually easily done yourself. When it becomes more difficult, engage a computer repair professional to help. Their training and certifications will save you time and troubles.
