Learning The Craft of Cranking Out Killer PPC Ads

By Stan Koob

If you want to make any money at all with PPC advertising, then you have to write ad copy that converts. It is amazing that your ad has to actually make people do something in a short span of time, and you only get one chance at it. In order to get the best results, out of necessity you must split test your ads using the script provided by all PPC platforms. The purpose of this article is to give you a clearer understanding of how you too can make your copy stand out from the competition by focusing on a few basic factors.

The first thing your ad needs to do is get attention because people tend to scan all the ads. What normally happens is people will skim and scan all the ads very quickly. You will need to use relevant keyword in your campaigns because of the quality score assignment. Whichever phrases your are using, they must be placed in your ads and the target URL page title. Be sure to take advantage of inserting your keywords dynamically into your PPC ad copy.

Be Timely: If your campaign focuses on the current trends and holidays, then you should make sure your ad copy is timely and shows your readers what's available, right now. You don't want to run out of inventory while your campaign is still running. You need to update your ad copy anytime there is a change. Many advertisers lose boatloads of money by simply not focusing on this one factor. You can keep it timely by pausing your campaign and making any necessary changes. If you're selling that has an unlimited supply, like an eBook, however, you don't need to worry about this.

If you look at other ads, you will notice they have the words in their titles capitalized - first letter only, though. Long ago it was shown that this has some kind of magical effect on conversion rates, and that is about all anybody knows about it. Actually, if you tried to put the entire title in all caps, Google would not approve it because it will look too spammy. So that is one more thing you can do that will help your ads perform better.

Sometimes asking a question in your ads can have a positive effect. Of course if you are providing some kind of solution, then that can work very well with any kind of advertising. Just make a list of possible questions, and then do split testing to see which ones convert the best. Take a look at who else is using questions, if everybody is your results will not as good.

Focusing on improving your copywriting skills will help make your PPC campaigns profitable.
