By Daniel Kilburn

What can be done with cheap laptops and the best external hard drive would have taken a more powerful machine just a few year back. For a small amount of money you can get a machine that handles email, word processing, audio and video and most of what you would need from a portable computer. The addition of an external hard drive though would let you take your collection of files where you go as well as being able to back up your laptop.

Before you buy your next laptop the best thing to do is sit down and think about what you are going to do with your new notebook. A bit of planning can allow you to buy a machine that will meet your needs and wants for a while. A wish list and a bit of research can offer the best choices for your future purchase.

When you do your research you will probably find that getting an external hard drive for your new laptop would be a good choice. It is an easy way to back up your computer if it has a problem. In addition it is an easy way to carry around you audio and video collection without filling up your notebooks drive.

These units come in regular and solid state format which each have a strength and weakness. The regular external disk uses platters to store a large amount of information, but has slower access speed. The solid state disk which use a type of computer memory are faster but cannot hold as much data as the regular format.

In addition there are two popular ways to connect the drive to your laptop. The first is using a USB 2.0 connector which is found on almost all computers but has a lower transfer speed. Recently a newer version called USB 3.0 has came out which is much faster but not found on all computers. If your machine can use the newer standard pick it otherwise you will have to get the older USB 2.0 standard.

Cheap Laptops and the Best External Hard Drive can prove to be the winning combination for your next computer purchase. Do a bit of planning and outlining what you need and then make your next buy.
