Regarding Fonts

By Claris Logosso

How successful your website becomes is greatly affected by the overall style and presentation of your information. As many sites that now exist, most people associate a poorly designed website with a low quality product or uninteresting article. The more successful sites today are smoothly laid out, with multiple aspects to draw attention and frame links and information. One essential aspect which people often overlook is the site's fonts.

You may be interested to hear about a well-known font called Times Roman. Throughout both the computing and educational worlds, this font is a very common sight. Before the Second World War, it was created for newspapers who wanted an easy-to-work-with font for their presses. Now, Times Roman carries with it an air of the college campus or the press room. Basically, it is a simple font, but it makes by staying out of the way. This font clearly makes its mark in stepping aside and letting the words do the hard work.

The right font will convey the right tone for whatever message you need to deliver. If you look at fonts as another kind of image or imagery, you could then be more deliberate with your selection and usage of them. The key is to understand your audience and their tendencies, allowing you to use the right combination of fonts and graphics to effect the right relative tone.

From the way fonts are stylized differently, they each develop a kind of personality which either harmonizes or clashes with other design elements of the site. The unique characteristics of each font give a certain form to the letters which can form the tone of the message and overall presentation of your site's information. Paying attention to these characteristics is vital to maximizing the potential effectiveness of each font and its place within your site's total design.

Finding ways to keep your site fresh and within the current trends of website design will be much easier to do when you have a good eye for stylish fonts. Learning how all of the various visual elements blend to evoke certain responses or connotations for your audience will help your message resonate further with them. Your site will stand out clearly from the majority of others, elevating it to the top of search results and becoming more and more of the public sphere.
