How Internet Marketers Can Improve Their Customer Service Skills

By Sophie Planteur

One of the reasons that people are drawn to Internet marketing is because they, perhaps incorrectly, assume that once they start they will have to put little effort into it. You put up a website that people can visit to buy things, attract people to that website through links and other marketing methods and then sit back and wait for them to buy what you are selling or hire you for your services.

Once your customer makes a purchase from you, get their mailing address from them and write a thank you note to them. This is going to work better for you if you don't have a very large business yet. But if your business is small, these little things you can do will make a huge difference.

Wouldn't it be worth it to send out this automated e-mail if it motivates people to become repeat customers?

When you write sales pages, web pages and send out e-mails, be sure to take the time to make them good. Don't let typos, spelling errors or grammatical mistakes happen. People surfing the internet don't know you; your website is going to determine their opinion of you. If you want people to trust you and try your products, you don't want them to have to be bothered with typos or sloppily written sales pages. Not everyone is good at writing; if you have to, outsource your writing! There are a lot of writers and editors offering their services online nowadays; ask one of them for help.

Send out some free information to your customers every now and then. Instead of only sending out sales pitches to the people on your list, send out newsletters every once in a while as well. If they think that you will only send them promotional material, they will be much more likely to blanket delete all of your mails without having read them. If, however, you offer up some information for free every once in a while, your e-mails will be better received. You can also please your following by sending them updates on what other projects you know of that people are doing. This is going to show your customers that you care about what you are offering them and aren't only concerned with the amount of money you'll make. There is nothing complex about delivering good customer service. As a matter of fact, it shouldn't really take you that long to offer good customer service. As a matter of fact, if you will only take ten or fifteen minutes of each day to ensure that your customers are satisfied, you can become successful. Especially when those few additional minutes each day could mean hundreds or thousands of dollars in sales for your business. When you think about how easy it is to offer your customers a good buying experience, why aren't you putting more effort into this? It can only help you!
