When we visited a water park, on one of the slides, it flew out of my pocket.
It doesn't overshadow those close-ups like a flash can. In fact, there's the general close-up mode, the super close-up mode, and then the ultra close-up mode with the LED. Having lost my last Stylus Tough, I upgraded to this model. While, I still think it is a good niche product, the startup time is terrible, and it does appear to take much longer to focus and snap pictures.
I have not had a chance to see if it is waterproof or not after the repair. Does what it's built to do. Well with 4 kids we needed something tough. This is a great sturdy camera. I bought this because my wife and daughter both bought them when their previous cameras broke. I got sand in my previous Canon camera and it jams. Therefore I wanted a camera that would take decent pictures for the areas I wasn't comfortable carrying my wife's expensive (and more fragile) Nikon. Here's the pro's: I bought this camera for my husband who was asking me for a durable and easy to use under-water camera. I had to take the battery out in order for it to shut off. Just printed out the return forms, this camera is going back. Operation is aggravating. My wife and I saw this camera in Best Buy and she really liked it. This is the second Olympus Tough that I have own. The first one died after 3 years of taking it to the beach and eventually the seals give up and let water in (sea water).
One common complaint - slow start-up time - can be easily fixed by following directions in the manual: Turn "PW on Start-up" to off, this will keep the camera from loading the logo and the camera is immediately ready for use. Another common complaint is the time it takes in order to shoot the next picture.
However, I needed a waterproof camera for work, and this ended up being the only one available immediately in town. I am glad it was. Their program you use on the computer is great too. So many awesome features! Otherwise, it is fantastic! If you follow the instructions, it is easy to use, with no leaking possible.
I took it to my daughter's Christmas concert. My husband took pictures and the camera would not shut off.
